A graduate school educational excursion brought Candy to Costa Rica to delve into the layered historical significance of coffee as a food, export, and livelihood for international growers. In a recent Popville article, Prince of Petworth spotlighted Southeastern Roastery for its impact as a women-owned, operated, and empowered brand devoted to sustainability straight from the source. With this in mind, meet Candy at Songbyrd Music House & Record Cafe. Coffee tastings are held the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month from 8-11 a.m. at the Adams Morgan community staple. Coffee is sold daily by the cup and whole bean by the bag. Additionally, Rachel Pace, Owner of Penny Brew, has signed on as a wholesale customer powered by Southeastern Roastery. Penny Brew believes in the concept that “two people are better than one - more is accomplished by working together”. The paths have now aligned for two black women with engineering degrees and a passion for coffee. Lay the foundation. Build together. ![]() May 21, 2017 marked Southeastern Roastery's 1st cupping at Culture Coffee in the Brightwood neighborhood of D.C.! This also marked the roll-out of the new 12 oz and 1 lb bags and the tasting of Southeastern Roastery's first batches of dark roast. As a high-five to women in coffee, this cupping was held at an all women's owned coffee shop and featured coffees from the women lead Keitara cooperative in Sumatra. A big, huge bear-hug for everyone that came out to taste, celebrate, and provide feedback! Southeastern Roastery loves and appreciates you dearly.
